Star Valley Ranch Groundwater Level II Study

WESTON was selected by the WWDC in 2007 to complete a Groundwater Level II Study involving drilling four exploratory boreholes and based on the results of the borehole drilling program, constructing an exploratory well completed in the Tertiary Salt Lake Formation for the Town of Star Valley Ranch (TSVR) community.  The project also included refinement of the water storage and distribution system upgrade recommendations that were made as part of the Level I Study that was completed by FORSGREN and WESTON in September 2008.

WELL SITING, PERMITTING, DRILLING, AND TESTING

The well siting study prepared by WESTON during the Level I study was refined at the onset of this project.  Based on a review of well site logistics, local hydrogeology, and access issues, WESTON recommended four potential test boring sites.  Three of the test borings were drilled during the spring of 2008.  In the fall of 2008 an exploration well was drilled at the preferred site identified during the test boring program.  The new well was tested at a rate of 317 gpm and the water quality analysis indicated that the water quality is excellent.  The Level II study recommended that the well be equipped with a 300 gpm pump to transmit water into the Green Canyon pressure zone.

REFINEMENT OF DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM UPGRADES

FORSGREN developed a detailed digital model (WaterCad) of the existing and proposed TSVR water system for use in analysis and planning. This model revealed that as growth continues at TSVR, the existing system is not adequate to meet peak demands and is unable to provide significant fire protection.  The model was refined and updated as part of Phase II of the project.

CONCEPTUAL LEVEL DESIGNS AND COST ESTIMATES

The WESTON/FORSGREN Team identified and developed alternative operational and system improvement alternatives intended to address immediate and long-term water needs.

SITING OF ADDITIONAL WELLS WESTON conducted an additional well siting study at the completion of the Level II study to identify the best potential sites for drilling additional water supply wells for the TSVR in order to meet additional demands identified during the Level II Study.  Three additional test wells sites were identified and evaluated as part of the Level II study.  A new well was drilled and tested in early 2011.  Drilling and testing oversight of the new well was provided by WESTON.  TSVR Well No. 3 is completed in the Tertiary Salt Lake Formation and is projected to yield 850 gpm
